Description

Blumine Island is located in Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Sounds, it is approximately a 45 minute boat ride from Picton. The Island is a scenic reserve and was once farmed but has been allowed to regenerate back into native bush over the last sixty years. Both mice and stoats were eradicated from the island in 2005. Since then saddleback, kiwi and orange fronted parakeet have been transferred to the island. It also supports all the common bush birds and weka. During WWII the Army established a camp on the island and built two gun emplacements and ammunition bunkers. There are only 6 positions available. The work will entail upgrading the current track system using Hand tools only.  Some  species monitoring may also take place..
