Meola Reef Restoration Project
Provider: Conservation Volunteers New Zealand
Region: Auckland
Duration
19 December 2008 - 19 December 2008
Description
Conservation Volunteers welcomes volunteers interested in helping to restore Meola Reef Park. Meola Reef Te Toakaroa (the long reef) extends two thirds of the way across the harbour towards Birkenhead. About 20,000 years ago, lava from the Three Kings volcano cooled to solid basalt rock forming sets of vertical hexagonal joints which are clearly visible on top of the reef. You will be involved in the ecological restoration of the area including planting native trees.
